Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is an extensive area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this is not true. Brugel lived in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to be a dancer but an increase in her height meant that she literally outgrew her dance partners. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was six feet and one inches tall. As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. The Brugel is one of the former dancers that turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school encouraged her in the right direction. The teacher was the one who encouraged her to try out to play the character of Anne in the school's annual production. The teacher who suggested she take on a part in the school's annual show. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across both small and large screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the part in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian in the season 1 actors of the series as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
